NEVER READY or ALWAYS HAVE BEEN?

Updated: Sep 10, 2020

I've always known I was capable. I've always known I have talent. I've always been gifted, a people person, a party starter, the sunshine bringer. I've never had a problem helping others figure out what they should do. In fact, ever since I was a little girl, my mom said I've been "bossy," always getting involved in other people's business and giving my two cents even when it was unwarranted. I'd always gotten in trouble in school for socializing, talking too much, speaking up when it wasn't time to do so, and the list goes on and on. But you know what I did and still struggle with? Doing what I know.

I've known since 2007 (when I finished my MBA) that I have a knack for business and leadership development. I mean I practically stumbled upon the MBA (full-ride) as a break before my real dream of becoming a doctor. That's when I really fell in love with business and threw my pre-med degree and MCAT scores to the side. I knew I wanted to help businesses and ENTREPRENEURS grow into their fullest potential. I essentially wanted to invest my energy into helping people and businesses turn chaos into order, a whole bunch of ideas into strategies, a list of to-dos into action steps. And that's when in 2011, Emerge, LLC was birthed! But guess what, I got distracted with life - I ran a $3M nonprofit organization and subsidiary businesses for 13+years, met a guy, got married, had a baby, joined a bunch of organizations, served on boards and started helping other people with their business plans!

It wasn't until 2015, nearly 5 YEARS later, that I realized that much time had gone by. I was teaching workshops on Entrepreneurship, Financial Management, Strategic Planning, helping small business owners with their ideas, taking leadership positions to help other organizations soar, and then I had a wake up call - I was doing everything for everyone else, but not for myself and my own business aspirations! I was literally turning down potential clients, because I was so busy helping everyone and everything else out around me. While this all sounds noble and is great, I had to be the first to learn that it is important to prioritize yourself, your time, your energy and your investment. I was over here shouting the message to the world and not doing it myself. Shame, shame, shame. But I'm revitalized!

My first long-term client practically chased me down that year, and I reluctantly agreed to be her business coach. Since then, I've helped her reinvest in herself and re-strategize her business, and while I’ve continued to build my clientele base, I thought I'd share the journey and business resources that I've come alongside of and created in the process with you.

So, are you ready to come along for the ride? I've got lots of resources, and I'm growing just like you. So, how about it? Let's grow together! Whatever I've learned and continue to learn along the way, I'm more than happy to share with you. Let's do this. Time to EMERGE.

Thank you for sharing your story, it's confirmation that I need to reassess and reshift my focus towards pursuing my dreams. I often allowed fear to paralyze me, but no more. You have inspired me to step beyond my safety net, and fearlessly pursue my dream of being a successful entrepreneur/business owner. I look forward to reading more as you take this journey.
